Creek Walk Plants

The following plants have been planted along the Creek walk between the Government Bridge (Clunes-Creswick Road) and the ford at Station Flat Road. 

Brushy Needlewood   Hakea decurrens    Shrub with stiff prickly needles and fragrant white flowers. 
Dianella   Dianella revoluta Green strappy leaves producing purple fruit and small purple flowers. 
Spiny head mat rush    Lomandra Longifolia    Fine strappy leaves producing a spiny lemon shaded seed spike.  Indigenous people ground the seeds for use in damper and the leaves were used for weaving.  The base of the leaves contains water and can be chewed when thirsty. 
Common tussock grass    Poa Labillardieri Fine leaves forming a graceful arching shape. 
Sticky hop bush    Dodona Viscosa   Waxy green leaves and small red flowers.  Dodonaeas are known as hop bush as they were used to make beer by early European settlers.  
Dwarf Silver Wattle Acacia nondealbata  Feathery grey-green foliage and pale yellow flowers. 
Blackwood Wattle Acacia melanoxylon Tall tree with green leaves, cream ball shaped flowers with coiled seed pods. 
Clematis Clematis aristata Climber with creamy white flowers followed by feathery fruits. 
Sweet Bursaria Bursaria spinosa Twiggy shrub, thorn tipped shoots, fragrant creamy-white flowers, reddish fruits. 
River Bottlebrush Callistemon sieberi Stiff narrow leaves and cream bottlebrush flowers in spring and summer.
